Fourth Plain Commons: Sneak Peek

Fourth Plain Commons being built.

Opening in 2023 on Fourth Plain Boulevard, the Fourth Plain Commons is a mixed use project aiming to meet varying needs of the local community.

These needs were defined through 2020, as the project team hosted a community-wide open house, a series of workshops and design meetings, interviews and focus groups with residents and community-based organizations to gather input on the various elements of the Commons.

The Commons will host affordable housing units on the upper floors operated by the Vancouver Housing Authority. The lower floors will be developed and operated by The City of Vancouver alongside partner community-based organizations and will include flexible areas where the Fourth Plain community can gather, hold events, and access services.

There are a number of elements envisaged for the community space:

 ·      A commercial kitchen incubator to launch and support emerging food-based businesses

·       A shared office space to co-locate services to make it easier for residents and businesses to access resources

·       A community event space that can be rented for festivals, birthdays, trainings, and other events

·       A public plaza with infrastructure to support a Vancouver Farmer’s Market satellite market

Fourth Plain Forward Executive Director, Paul Burgess, was recently invited to take a tour of the work being undertaken at the site. Joining him were the mural artist Christian Tellez and Tiffany Conklin of the Portland Street Art Alliance who will be producing and overseeing the murals installed at the Commons.

Below you can take a sneak peek of Paul’s visit behind the scenes of the Commons as it takes shape ready for launch in just a few months!
